There is something special about arriving in a small town that takes pride in where it has been and where it is going. Whether you are a lifelong resident, a returning neighbor, or someone discovering Haskins for the very first time, the newest addition to our community offers a warm reminder that you have arrived somewhere worth exploring.
As you pass the community park, cross the railroad tracks, and enter the Village of Haskins, your attention is immediately drawn to a stunning new mural covering the side of the historic old post office building on Findlay Street. Dominated by a waving American flag and a proud knight representing Otsego Local Schools, the mural proudly proclaims, "Welcome to Haskins," creating an unforgettable first impression for everyone entering the village.
The mural was brought to life by talented local artist Nate Runkle of Unique Designs, whose attention to detail transformed the building into a work of art that celebrates both patriotism and hometown pride.
The project began with an idea from Jamie Wietrzykowski, owner of Haskins Hideout Cigar and Bourbon Lounge and 4 Guys & A Roof. Jamie also owns the old post office building and envisioned turning a blank brick wall into something that would become a landmark for the entire community.
That vision became reality through funding provided by Haskins Hideout Cigar and Bourbon Lounge with support from the Village of Haskins. It is another example of what can happen when local businesses and community leaders work together to make a hometown even better.
Founded in 1863, Haskins has long been a welcoming stop along the railroad that helped shape Northwest Ohio. Over the generations, the village has maintained its small-town charm while continuing to grow through the commitment of residents, businesses, and community organizations that care deeply about preserving its character. This new mural reflects that same spirit by honoring our heritage while creating something future generations will enjoy for years to come.
The mural also serves as a perfect backdrop for one of Haskins' favorite gathering places. Directly across Findlay Street sits Haskins Hideout Cigar and Bourbon Lounge, where friends come together to relax, share stories, enjoy premium cigars, and experience one of the area's finest selections of bourbon and whiskey.
After taking in the artwork, we invite you to walk across the street, settle into our patio, light your favorite cigar, pour a glass of exceptional bourbon, and soak in the atmosphere. It is the perfect place to unwind while enjoying one of the newest attractions in Wood County.
Community is built one project, one conversation, and one shared experience at a time. This mural is more than paint on brick. It is a symbol of hometown pride, a welcoming beacon for visitors, and a reminder that Haskins continues to invest in its future while honoring its past.
The next time you drive into Haskins, slow down for a moment. Admire the artwork, appreciate the history it represents, and then stop by Haskins Hideout Cigar and Bourbon Lounge. We'd love to welcome you with a comfortable seat on the patio, a premium cigar, a world-class bourbon, and the hospitality that makes Haskins feel like home.
